will not stay in reverse jump out

I have a carryall just install new bearing in trans and it will not stay in reverse nor before the repair or after

Howdy Pat... Remove the shift cable from the trans and manually put it in reverse and try it. Hopefully it's just an out of adjustment cable.

Thats what was wrong with mine..I adjusted it and it was fine, then the cable broke. Seems it was pretty worn. After I slapped on a new one and adjusted it, it has been great!

also check right at the trans where it goes in i have seen the bolt or nut that holds it all come loose and than it keeps popping out of gear.......................................

did all of the above I'am thinking of the shifter fork and or the shaft with the spring and ball,I am new at golf cart repair

There is also adjustment at the handle where you shift "inside, under seat front". Make sure the cable is pushing the shift lever all the way into gear. If it is out just a little it will continue to pop out of gear. The cable should move the shift lever into forward and reverse equal distance from center.And in neutral, the shift lever and shifter handle should be straight up at 12:00.
