1993 Marathon New Solenoid Wiring

Hello all,
Newbie here, I have the wiring diagram but do not understand how the newer style solenoid is hooked up as the posts are on the side, vs the diagram that has everything on the top both large and small posts. Also how to know which direction the diode and resistor go.

Large and small solenoid posts hook up the same regardless of post positioning. Solenoids have no polarity. Red band on diode faces positive. Resistor doesn’t matter, hooks up either way.

Any tips on how to connect the resistor? For the solenoid, the resistor and ends are not long enough to go from big post to big post?
