Yamaha Golf Cart With Disconnected Wires

Hi all,
I just purchased my first golf cart... it is a project it appears. It is a Yamaha G14 (JN4 s/n) which I have learned places it from '95-'96. The body is rough, but I can take care of that. What has me befuddled is that large box to the rear of the motor compartment get hot in a short period of time The guy I bought from called it the "resistor" but I'm not sure of the correct name. The cart has new batteries and the former owner replaced the solenoid, but told me he wasn't sure if he did it correctly. I have discovered two disconnected wires coming from vicinity of the f/r selector switch, but I am having trouble identifying where they go. Can anyone provide me some advice or a pic of "right looks like"? I've included pics. Thanks in advance! Joe

The white wire looks like on of the battery charger receptacle wires. There's a wiring diagram for a Yamaha G14 electric golf cart in the resource section of the forum. Welcome to the forum. :hattip:

Thx HotRodCarts! I downloaded the wiring diagram, but I am having trouble understanding it. I'll have to give myself a crash course in wiring diagrams! Any thoughts as to the heating issue?

Thx! Sorry I'm such a noob with Golf Carts. This is my first. I trust the cover I should remove is the "resistor"? Edit... I'm starting to make sense of this diagram now... I guess the "resistor" is the controller... Thx

No problem and don't worry about asking questions that's what we're here for. :hattip:

I'm not positive but it looks like that box in the picture isn't the factory controller. It looks like it has resistor coils inside of it so at some point someone may have made some changes. If you take the cover off take a picture with the cover off and post it.

Sorry for the. delay in getting back to you but I'm a school teacher and it's crunch time right now. I was able to pull off the body panels and my son is going to patch them up and paint them.

I took a couple of pics and was able to peek into the resistor and it appears to be two resistors inside. Neither appears to be broken. Internet snooping suggests the resistor pack to be from a 1980s/90s EZGO. The white wire I mentioned comes from one of the directional switches. Possibly the reverse buzzer?

Ive ordered a set of heavy duty rear shock and a back seat. I plan on putting the existing rear shocks on the front to address the severe negative camber issue I have. Crazy idea? Thanks for all your help!

Those are resistor coils in the box. It also looks like a few of your cables are in bad shape so you might want to replace them all.

Thx HotRodCarts! This is my first cart so I'm a little bit cautious and confused about some of the wiring. I'm not 100% sure that the cart was wired correctly before. I'll check the wiring diagram. Thanks for all of your help!
