Yamaha G9 Golf Cart Slow

1992 Yamaha G9

This golf cart is quite slow. My buddy tightened the throttle cable to mkae it pull harder, and it does make a little difference. It only goes a certain speed and won't go ANY faster. If one attempts to climb a hill the RPMs don't raise very much. When you go down a hill it even holds you back from going faster. I was wondering if you guys had any input.

You have good gas in the tank? Not old and skunky.
You are getting good spark?
Check your compression.
If compression is good, check your valves.
Clean your carb.

Check your air filter. I had the same problem and one of the rubber latches was under the filter housing. I snapped it in place and it runs like a champ.
