Yamaha g1 fuel pump question

I am having a problem with my 1980 Yamaha g1. It seems to not be getting enough gas. I blew out the fuel lines in case there was any dirt in them and it didn't seem to fix the problem. If I choke it the cart will run but then it stops and when I wait a few seconds it will start back up and go about another 20 feet. I'm thinking it may be the fuel pump but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any advice for me on what the problem could be?

my first guess would be that there is crap in the carb, but first pull the line at the carb and turn it over and see if its pumpin'. if so pull the carb and give it a good cleaning and blow it out with the compressor.
