Yamaha G-19 Motor Upgrade With More Torque for Hills

I have a 1998 G-19E Yamaha which I keep at a campground that has many steep hills. The cart runs okay but when on a steep grade is slows to a crawl. I want a more powerful motor upgrade with more torque for climbing hills. I've shopped a few websites however some more powerful motors specify that a lift kit is necessary. I do plan on adding sone slightly larger than stock wheels in my upgrade but no lifting unless it's unavoidable. Also I'm interested in what effect a more powerful motor will have on battery life and charge duration. Should I install heavier cables? Will I need a new controller or any other additional parts? Uphill power is a higher priority than speed (although speed is fun), so I'm open to suggestions. Also, what is the approxamite speed of this stock cart and what change would a given motor produce?

Search around and find a thread about a 48 volt upgrade. It will give you more power over the original 36 volt system and putting bigger tires will mean a higher top speed but less torque. I'd stick with the original wheels/tires to keep the power for going up thoose hills. :twocents:

Thank you spr however this cart is already a 48 volt system. I guess I should have specified this originally and will edit my post accordingly.

Bigger cables would be a good idea to start with. There's plenty of aftermarket motor choices for you. D&D Motor Systems or you could always go with a EMP 2 speed motor..
If your cart is stock your looking at around 12 MPH. How much faster and torque gain you get depends on the motor you go with. Some motors require a controller upgrade and if your looking at climbing big hills you'll more than likely need one. If you want to stay with the stock controller I'd look into a EMP motor.
