What to do! 6v batteries and only a 12v charger.

Hello to all in the carting world. I'm new here so please be gentle.

I have a clubcar cart that uses six 6volt batteries. It has been setting in the back yard for about 6 months without being used because of a flat tire. I plugged in the charger and it won't come on. The batteries are way low. Perhaps too low to let the charger work? I measured a few of the batteries and am getting about 1 volt from them. the problem is that i only have a 12volt charger. I tried to use it on one battery and it charges for a minute then shuts down. Is there a way to use it to just charge them enough so the regular cart charger will work? If i hook two up in series will the charger work?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

If you hitch up two batteries in series then your 12v charger should work. You will probably have to get the voltage per battery up to about 4.5v before the charger will switch on automatically.Batteries don't like being left discharged so you may end up having to replace them, but you might be lucky. Just make sure the cells are covered with water.

Thanks, i was not sure if that would work. I will try it and i'm hoping, hopefully not dreaming, that they will come up. If not i guess it will be time for new ones.
