Warne Winch question

While I'm asking questions here......I recently purchased a Warne Winch for the front of my Cart. (I toasted the made in China one that was on there. (Short story.....plastic gear thing)

Now, my previous winch was simply wired to a 12-V auto battery that just runs the winch (from a switch on the dash....and this will work the winch if the key is on or off) and the 12-V Battery also feeds the headlights when I "click" the key to the second position.

The Warne came with a safety device that you can wire into a 12-V system (my cart is 48-V) where you hook the 12-V positive wire to one side of the key, and the ground to a negative, and the winch will only work when the key is on.

Now, I do not want to wire this into the light switch as I don't want to have the lights on when I need the winch. (Draw too much power from the little 12-V)

Any ideas as to how I can hook this up to work with the key?

Agreed!! I wouldn't do that espically for a winch! I would put it on a different circuit. That seems to risky for me! I have at least 6 different switches on my dash to turn stuff on, so I don't have to worry about stuff being turned on and stuck on!!

Well....let me explain it this way......Warne's safety device is a seperate "box" that has 2 wires (positive and neg) that are specifically for a 12-V. Then the "box" also has 4 additional connections where you bolt on your pos and neg connections from the battery on one side, and the pos and neg connections to the winch on the other side.

So, the only powder thru the key is 12-V.
