Voltage Reducer - Now Cart is SLOW!

Hey
I have a 2008 Club Car DS - 48v (4x12v).

I recently added a 48v to 12v voltage reducer 20amp to a make-shift terminal block and connected all my accessories -- LED Lights, 12v charger outlet and LED under body lights.

When I finished - my batteries read over 50 volts as a unit. The terminal block registered 12.6 for my accessories, but the car was extremely slow - like 5mph max.

I disconnected the reducer and it was back to normal speed 18mph. I reviewed all my connections with the reducer etc. and they are correct.

What could be causing this? Is my reducer bad - even though it is providing 12v power to my accessories? Could the amp load of the terminal block be causing this power loss to the motor???

Thanks!

Anyway you can show us how you hooked it up does it have a key switch wire did you tie grounds together

I have not checked the voltage when it is going slow. I can do that today.

I didn't tie the grounds together (I'm assuming you are talking about the grounds to all my accessories.)

It has a key switch wire, but said to only use that for the 30amp version - I purchased the 20amp version.

I am attaching a picture of the terminal block I used for my lights etc.

I'm new to all this. But why do you use a 48v to 12v reducer? I hooked lights up to mine by just running wires to power and ground of one battery. Is there a disadvantage to doing it the way I did?

Adds stress to just one battery/ unbalances the pack, sometimes will cause that battery to fail sooner:twocents:

Ok cool. Only running small led lights so not too much draw. Just wanted to make sure I'm not gonna fry anything.
