V-Glide keeps melting

I have a 91 Club Car electric and the V-Glide keeps melting. This happens when running in anything lower than wide open. It runs fast and some one told me that it could have a high power motor. The person I bought it from had replaced all of the wiring with new stuff and it seems to be the correct voltage and wiring. All batts are new as well. What could the problem be and is there a solution to this or any type of newer system that I could put on instead of the V-Glide? What can be done with out spending a ton of money?
HELP!

The V-Glide system is actually a pretty good system. What batteries are in the cart? I understand they are new but what voltage?

It has 6 of the 6 volt batteries in there. Now what has happened is the black ground wire on the bottom of the V-Glide has arked to something and have melted the ends. These are the two black wires, one coming from the relay and the other going to the heat coals. It just all of a sudden would not go and when i pushed the peddle in it arked badly and melted the wire ends on the post they were connected to. I could not see if they were touching anything to make them short out like that. There just seems to be way too much juice going through the system. HOw can I regulate the current so I can ride this thing at a slower speed without it melting or burning up?

On a CC 36 volt V-Glide with resistor system, with the correct batteries, which you have, that is non-lifted, you should be able to go slow without burning anything up. I am thinking that you need to get a good wiring diagram and make sure it is wired right first. You should be able to find the correct wiring diagram for your cart on this site. Also, if the cart does have a high speed motor in it, that will put more of a strain on your electrical system. Try to post a picture of your motor. Is this cart lifted?

I SEEM TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE ON MY 02 CC 36V VGLIDE WITH HIGH SPEED MOTOR.I JUST REPLACE THE V GLIDE AS I WAS HEADING TO A RELATIVES HOUSE GOT WOT AND HALF WAY THERE THE VGLIDE ARM MELTS ON ME.THE LAST COPPER SQUARE WAS BADLY ARCED AND MELTED INTO THE PLASTIC.ANY ADVICE ON IT. ALSO WHEN I RIDE AROUND SLOW THOSE COILS HEAT UP LIKE IM SITTING ON AN OVEN.....

Welcome to the forum.

What make and model # is the motor? Some high speed motors are hard on v-glides and resistor coils.

I'm not sure since the lettering is faded. I also noticed the #3 coil gets so hot the metal plate over it has blackened.im worried since I do take it out on the road for leisure rides and to the local market.also when the motor was installed the person who did it installed the cables wrong and forward is reverse and vice versa. Then he switched the cables at them fnr switch witch made it go in the right direction.i mean I do enjoy riding it specially with some cold ones in the cooler . Thank s for the quick response

The coils get real hot when your driving at slower than full throttle even with a stock motor.
Without knowing exactly what the motor is it's hard to say. If your wanting to run at slower than wide open for long runs you may not get along well with a resistor coil cart.

I am back on here and still have the same problem with my cart. Keeps burning up wires and the v Glide. Last time it burned up 2 battery wires. I found the wire diagram online and it all seemed to be wired correctly but the reverse is wired to the last battery and not the middle one. I do have a very fast reverse. Will spine tires on pavement. My cart is lifted about 6' to 8" with 4 wheeler tires on it. Came that way when I got it. The coils sometimes glow red hot and this time of year catch leaves on fire. I try to go wide open all the time and still burn up wires. Had it looked at by a cart mechanic and he replaed a few wires and that was it. He gave me an estimate of about $800 to convert to a non V Glide system or a electronic controller. Does anybody know what I may need to convert over to a better system and where I can find it at a good price and do it myself?
I also live on a lake with hills to climb back and forth.

I had the same issues. Replaced the V-glide twice and finally bit the bullet and installed a controller and everything with it. Knock on wood it has been terrific. You wont be sorry in the long run. I know everyone says the v-glide is a good system :thumbdown but if its a good system a controller is an exceptional system.javascript:emoticon('')
