Testing a 36 Volt Motor

I am wanting to know how to test my 36 volt motor in a 1993 club car. I just picked this car up
and am unsure of what all may need to be replaced. I have already checked the continuity on the fields
of the motor and all ios good there. We wired up 3 12volt batteries, just to get power for testing,
and the cart would not move. If we jiggle and play with the FNR switch, it would move on it';s own.
Before I start spending money to replace the FNR and solenoid, which is also bad, I would like to know
if the motor is any good so it will helpo determine if the cart is worth saving to begin with.

If the cart moved at all the motor is probably good. I'd check the forward and reverse switch and the connections at the switch...

SERIES wound motor test:

Jack the rear tires of the ground and put the cart on jack stands...
Remove the main positive and negative cables form the battery pack...
Spray the 4 studs on the motor with a little penetrating oil...
Mark the cables then remove all four cables from the motor (use a wrench to hold the jam nuts)...
Put a jumper wire from a "A" terminal to an "S" terminal. (Example: A1 to S1)...
Then hook a 12 volt battery or 12 volt battery charger in the 15+ amp range to the remaining "A" and "S" terminal (Example A2 and S2)...

If the motor spins it's good...

OK this is really helpful. Sorry for the late reply. I just picked up my new FNR switch, solenoid and a micro switch
for the speed control(v glide of course). Now they are not noted on my motor, so how will I know which pole is
which? Any ideas? Basically when I look under my seat, i have studs on the motor that are on the left side of the
motor, they are in a row from top to bottom. Which poles are which so I do not possibly short anything out? Also
is there anyway to test in forward and reverse or is this even necessary? Again, many thanks for all the help.

Ok iI will have to look closer at the motor itself then. As far as I can see, there is nothing stamped next to the studs on the motor. Thanks again.
