taking out 36volt motor

I'm trying to take out motor on my 02 36volt ez go cart, it went under saltwater and I'm afraid motor is seized on shaft. When I was trying to get it loose the cover is coming off exposing the inner windings. Is this normal when pulling the motor? I know you can take the cover off but it shouldn't be that hard to get the motor off the shaft should it?

Welcome to the forum...

The motor should slide right off but in your case it sounds like the coupler is seized on the input shaft. Salt water can be a real pain. Keep wiggling and smack it a few times with a hammer.

You can just take the can off, and then work on getting the armature off, it not recommended to do it this way, cause you have to take the motor appart the get the armature back in the brushes. Do like rod said, to try to get it off as one unit first. If you end up separating the 2, just be real careful when you do.

Well, the cover came completely off while trying to work it off the shaft. Now problem is I can't get cover out far enough to get off motor. Am I at the point that I have to take off the drivers side shock to get it off? Any suggestions.

yeah, probly. Just be careful with that can, it's heavy. once the can is off, you should be able to wiggle it a little, and do some tapping on the COUPLER not the windings.

Now that the case is out of the way can you spray some penetrating oil on the coupler? If so try that and let is sit a few hours.
