Starter problem

My 92 G8 will not start at times. It clicks as if the battery is dead but after pushing the gas pedal several times it will start right up. This happens almost every time I first get in it but does better after it warms up.
Is this an electrical problem, a starter problem or something else? It seems as if there is something not making contact intially.
Help.

Try cleaning the connections at the battery. It could also be worn brushes in the starter generator. Pull the inspection covers and look at the starter brushes.

When you get a solenoid click but nothing, try holding down the pedal and carefully try and rotate the clutch. If it goes you need to look at st/gen
