spark plug help

hi everyone. i'm new to this forum. working on an 88 ezgo 2 stroke for my sister in law. it won't rev very hi. i've found that trying different plugs and changing the gap has made it better. can someone tell me what plug it should have and what the gap should be. i've heard NGK is best but i don't know specifically what plug to use. the cart has had extensive repairs recently. engine complete rebuild, carb clean, new fuel pump, HEI ignition in place of factory ignitor that wasn't working, cleaned muffler. I'm sure there is more that i'm forgetting at the moment. we've been messing with this thing for a couple months now. thanks for the help.

i replaced the plug with the ngk that you recommended, but it still doesn't run right. it starts and runs fine at low rpm's it just won't rev up. everyone i've talked to thinks it might be the ignition timing. i think i'm gonna pull the flywheel back off and check the pickup coil. a friend installed it during the rebuild. he said he lined the marks from the screw heads, but i'm wondering if it is actually correct. can anyone tell me how it should be installed? is there marks to line up or should i just move it and see what it does?

compression is 135psi. i pulled the exhaust off the engine and verified the piston is installed in the right direction. this evening i pulled the flywheel off and rotated the pulser slightly. it made a noticable difference. i'm hoping someone can give me an idea of where its supposed to be. if not i will will just experiment until i find where it runs the best.
