Solenoid Clicks Rapidity

Hi all,

New to this... I just bought a Yamaha (Late 80s-90s) G5 Sun Chaser 36 v and the guy we bought it from said the batteries where toast but it ran when parked. one of the Solenoids just clicks (shutter/ multiple clicks) when applying throttle but all lights work etc. When I measured the batteries (6- 6volt) I came up with 35.1 volts no throttle. Two questions, if one battery is at 5.4 and the rest are over six wouldn't that be enough to get the cart moving? Two, This cart appears to have two solenoids, how do I tell if one is bad? I guess one other question, can I bypass the solenoid and go straight to the motor to tell if it works before dumping more money into it?

Thanks in advance!

Put a meter across the battery pack and read voltage, then push pedal and see what the voltage drops to. Then do the same with each battery individually. You may find only the one battery is dropping drastically. You can just replace one battery in this case, but we would recommend replacing the whole pack.

Thnx for the reply! Forgive my ignorance. Is there a minimum or max draw down I should look for while under load? For instance, 34 v under load is not ok but 35v good?

I'm expecting to see a bigger drop than that to be honest. Just do the tests as described and give us the numbers. All your batteries are likely to show a fair drop but the one at 5 volts will likely drop way down. This will affect the whole pack voltage drastically. So worry more about the individual battery results.

We measured all the batteries and one was sitting below 3.1 volts under load. The rest where at 6.1-6.3 under load. Just got a battery to replace and and we have successfully got it moving under its own power! Thank you for the advice! It did run out of juice pretty quick but hoping a charge will help.
Thnx again:)
