shifter cable adjustment

This may sound stupid but I can't find any good directions on adjusting the F/R shifter cables. The cart wasn't going fully into forward and the gears would grind a little. I adjusted the cable and it worked but now won't go into reverse unless I pull on the cable.

What year and model is the cart? Are both cables moving freely? You can try some penetrating oil inside the cables sleeves to see if it helps. If the cables are frayed you need new cables.
