Sensitive Accelerator Runs At Full Speed Only

Hello to all. My modified EZ Go does not accelerate slowly and the throttle is very sensitive, it jumps to full speed about one-third of the way down the accelerator pedal. The cart has been modified and has always run well. But I push the pedal down and I hear a click and then after another inch or so of depressing the accelerator, the cart lurches forward full speed. The accelerator pedal is very sensitive and I have to push it down slowly or the cart will not go at all. All electronics are working...lights, charge inicator, horn, etc. What could be the problem? Need help in Estrella.

The cart is a 98. I do not understand your question about fleet, PDS or DCS. The cart was used as a golf cart. The numbers on the data plate are E198 Serial Number 1087658. I had it modified and it has 7, 6-volt batteries, a 400 A controller (I believe), the stock motor. I added a lift kit, individual headlights, neon...that's about it.

The problem started when I was driving down the street and it shut off. I coasted to a stop and it started again, but soon began to "jump" and quit alternatingly. Now I have to press the accelerator very very slowly to get the motor to engage, and when it does, it is like a dragster. It hooks up pretty good and I get rubber. But it is very sensitive. Everything looks connected and clean, and all connections are tight.

Sincere thanks for your interest. I want to be able to work on this thing, but I am lost.

It sounds like the ITS my be bad. Here's the test procedure for the ITS...

To test the ITS jack the rear of the cart up and put it on jack stands. With the key on and the cart in either forward or reverse put the ground of your meter on the battery pack negative, slowly push the accelerator and on the small black wire at controller you should have 13-15 volts at activation, on small white wire you should have .5 volts at activation to 1.5 volts at full throttle. Test the black wire with it plugged in and unplugged...

Another possiblity could be the controller may only be rated for 36 volts and the extra 6 volts your running could have damaged the controller. Do you know what controller is installed on the cart?

My ? is how do you charge 42 volts? 36 volt on the 6 batt. and a 6 volt charger on the 7th batt? I tried that and never seemed to work too well. I should say i tried to charge 42 volts with a 36 volt charger never worked.

I will have to check the ITS on Saturday as I have to leave town and will not return until Fri night. I will bring my multimeter back to check the circuits. I am not sure what controller I have, but I will get into this and will let you know. Again, I thank you for the info and will put it to use.
