I have a new RXV gas cart and when accelerating from a dead stop the belt / clutch grabs hard most of the time and this results in a sudden jerky start. Is this normal for a new cart until the belt edges wear? I'm concerned that long term this is not going to be good for the rear end. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It could be a clutch problem. If the cart is new I'd take it back to the dealer you bought it from and have it straightened out.
