Roof repair

fleck

I came across (drove past a pile of trash and this was in it) an 80" limo cart top that that is in good shape other than a few cracks. I would like to repair it but I'm not sure of what to use on it because I don't know what it is made of. I has the same design as the one on my Marathon and think that it is plastic. I would like to coat the top and bottom with something to reinforce it against further cracks. Anyone ever do this? any input is appreciated. Thanks Jim

How about a rubberized under coating like they spray under cars ? You can get it in 24 oz. cans and I just treated some old vehicle ramps I have and I'm thinking of doing the expanded metal floor in my utility trailer.

The stuff I used can be painted, the main reason I chose it was I'm a rep for the company and I get product samples fairly cheap.

Im no expert but Id go with a thin coat of fiberglass about as thick as the plastic top. Scuffing the top so the resin sticks is the key. I used to do this building custom car and truck interiors and if you didnt prep the plastic the resin would peel right off. Maybe someone else can give a better idea or improve mine.

VERY VERY good idea, there is a name for that but I cant remember. they do it on aircraft aluminum to stop the crack from growing. I went to A&P school for a while until the bottom fell out.

My buddy fixed his top with that bumper repair stuff you can buy at most auto parts stores. It held up good but he did a shotty job and it looks pretty bad.

I'd suggest having it plastic welded. I have used the bumper epoxy with excellent luck as well. Or you could try your luck with Plastix, should be available at any motorcycle shop.
