Resistor on solenoid stays hot?

I'm new to the forum and need some help if possible.

I bought a 2005 TXT 36v that I've converted to 48v with all new hardware, cables, motor, 4855 AXE Alltrax controller, HD solenoid, HD fnr, onboard charger, etc...

I'm having an issue and I think it's with the solenoid. The resistor on the large posts stays hot, all the time, even when the key switch is not hooked up yet. Is this normal? or should it only get hot when I turn the key on to use the cart?

I'm trying to trouble shoot everything right now because I can't get the cart to do anything at all. Looks like everything is connected properly as the Alltrax wiring diagram shows, but the LED on the controller does nothing, and the cart does nothing, no clicks, sounds, nothing.

Thanks in advance,
Yammer

you need to go over everything you did, double check it triple check it more than likely you,ll find something that you either miswired or hooked up wrong.............if your not even getting any led lights from the controller seems theres no power going to it.....start from the beginning with it and take your good old time........................................

Did you change the resistor when you upgraded to 48 volts? Even if you didn't it shouldn't be hot when the key is off. Like Shadowman said go over all your wiring and double check everything.

Yes I sure did.

I'm using a Heavy Duty Solenoid, 48V, 400 Amp Continuous Current, 800 Amp Inrush Current with a 470 OHM Solenoid Resistor, Used With Large 400 amp Solenoid 3/8 Ring

Alltrax 4855 AXE 500 AMP (2 MIN), 700A Peak (10 Sec.) Programmable Electronic Speed Controller, for Series Motors, 24-48V, - EZGO ITS Throttle

EZGO GE "The Raptor" 6.1 Non-Peak HP @ 4600 Rpm 36v-48v Electric Motor

I had a problem with the resistor on the large posts of the solenoid staying extremely hot constantly with or without the key on. No power apparently to the controller because LED did not light at all.

I read older posts instructing to jack up the rear of the cart, take the resistor off the solenoid and jump the large posts with a 4 awg cable to check if the solenoid was stuck or bad.

Once I set it up this way, the second the positive lines hit the battery post it **** near melted that battery post down, huge spark, and blew the black wire off running from the small terminal post on the solenoid to the B- of the controller.

Now, as a result, once I hooked up the resistor to the solenoid again and connected the positive lines to the battery post, it stayed cool (key off) and the LED on the controller is now solid green. Black wire not hooked back yet. ??? Any insight on this matter? Do you think I blew something? I'm scared to move forward now.

Thanks,
Yammer

I'm not really sure. If everything checks ok and the wiring is correct I'd call Alltrax and talk with them. There very good with helping... Maybe someone else here will have some ideas.
