Replaced Crank Seal Harley Davidson Cart Runs Bad

I have an early 80's Harley Davidson three wheel cart golf cart. I replaced the crank seal as it was dried out and leaking. Back together now but still runs bad. No power, spits occassionally through the carb, and gets very hot. Seems to run better in reverse? I am stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome Kent :hattip:
I would check the compression first, if theres at least 120lbs then move on to the carb. disassemble, clean and blow it out with compressed air. check if the fuel pump is moving fuel to the carb, if its loading up on fuel it will run hot. the muffler may be blocked with carbon and oil! not real common but does happen.

Compression is good. Checked carb and fuel pump. They seem ok. Muffler seems to be clear. (it's pretty new also) Could the timing be off? Sorry for all the questions, I'm the new owner of a used cart and am trying to learn about it. My first gas cart.

I have a similar problem. It starts in reverse but not in forward.New fuel pump, carb clean. I'm thinking coil or timing i'm seeing A week spark.I could use help too. thanks

Hello, My friend and I just got a 1975 Harley Golf Cart. Did you ever figure out this issue? Ours goes great in reverse but barely runs going forward. Do you know what parts control timing?

You can download a Harley Davidson golf cart pdf service manual from Cartaholics resource section of the forum and this will show you how to set timing.
