I was goin' through my scrap bin the other day and found this Honda v-twin crankshaft that came outta of a engine that blew both rods and had aluminum built up on the journals. i got to thinkin' about when i was a kid and watchin' my Daddy fix the crank on my mini bike after i ran it outta oil, after given me a good ole beating he put it in a bucket of Muriatic Acid over night and it removed the aluminum buildup from the rod. so thought i would try some industrial toilet bowl cleaner  :rotflmao: well after about 8 hrs i was able to remove 99% and lightly scraped the big chunks off and hit it with 360 grit emery choth. ran it through the bead blaster and finished up with 400 then 600 in the lathe. i got to cheat a little cuz i used a shop made pneumatic polisher but a fella sure could do it by hand. crazy stuff hey :dazed:

I've used Muriatic Acid to clean aluminum out of cylinders. Just wiped it out with a rag. Works great. You have to use the strong stuff for cleaning cement or such. In Az I looked for some, but all I could find was a watered down version used for swimming pools or something. Too weak. In Mexico, the strong stuff is used for cleaning toilet bowls.
