Red wire from charger port to F&R fried

Had a over heat issue taking long slow rides at the campground. Did some research and they recommended getting some heavier cables ands getting an HD Forward & Reverse switch. So i bought one and installed it. Took for a quick trip and worked fine. Also replaced the charging port** wife took kids out on it and within 200 yds smoke started billowing and red wire ( reed switch wire I believe) from charge port to the micro switch on F&R melted completely. So do i have it hooked up wrong? Was it not the actually 200 yd ride and maybe leaving the brand new charger plugged in all week while we were gone? New charger should shut off and just maintain batteries… I'm going to try and attach pictures. Any help is appreciated. 1996 ezgo txt 36v

One thing I can say for sure my friend is leaving the charger plug is not causing any of your problems we have a similar problem with a club car DS at this time!

So got to campsite today, noticed it fried the blue andbgreen wire that go to key switch as well. I installed a new charging receptacle and replaced the blue and green wires to key switch from the F&R got everything all done and went to plug in the red thin wire from charge port to the lead on one of the micro switches and it popped sparked and melted it again, so I decided to leave it off completely and cart works just fine. The charger receptacle i bought did not come with a reed switch so im assuming it has something to do with that. Wife has the cart right now but will post a picture of what im talking about

Many carts have the reed switch bypassed.

I doubt your charger is maintaining the battery. Most don't and should be unhooked after charging.

This is the infamous red wire, i ran new wires to key switch and installed the new charger port . I tried plugging the red wire end into the F&R where it was on old one and it popped and melted the contact on micro switch. I left it unplugged and cart runs and charges fine. I will not leave the charger plugged in during the week when we aren’t here from now on but the damn charger is brand new and is supposed to shut off and maintain. So for now the problem is solved. I just wanted to why it did that is all
