Put new batteries in and cart wont move

Hello. All my batteries froze in my cart this winter and I had to replace them. When I put the new batteries in I put all the batteries facing away from me. I looked at a friends cart and all the batteries faced me. Did I do something to the cart, or any of its parts by hooking it up backwards at first. The backup beeper doesnt work or anything. Does not move forwards or reverse. All connections are clean and tight. It is a 1999 ezgo. It has the box with the run/tow toggle switch. I thought maybe the batteries were dead but the dealer advised me that the batteries come 80% charged. I tried hooking up the charger and it didnt even kick in to start charging. The outlet works because i tried plugging something else in. Is it some sort of fuse that has blown or what. Please help

Did you have the run tow switch in the tow position when you did the work? If you hooked the batteries up backwards you may have several problems like controller, reed switch etc.

Here'a a link to a diagram for your cart. Check you wiring first. Check the total battery pack voltage and post your results.

I checked all the wiring and it looks the same. I dont have a volt meter to check the voltage. The switch was in the tow position when I did the work, but I put it to the run position afterwards to see if it worked.

You're going to need a digital multi-meter to do any testing. I would start with checking the battery pack voltage. New batteries are often pretty low on voltage and low voltage will keep the charger from turning on. It could be as simple as that.

you can buy a digital multi-meter for less than 20 bucks

Okay. So I put the volt meter on all the batteries and 5outta 6 had 6.19 or better. One of them had 5.5. I put it on a charger and nothing. Wouldnt take a charge. Im assuming that the batterie they sold me is a dud. Just for giggles I by-passed that battery and connected 5 in the rotation to see if the cart would move, or even if the back up buzzer would work, and nothing. Do I need all 6 batteries for everything to work? The other batterie will be going back to the store on Monday. Could one battery cause the whole system to not work? Thanks again for your help.

well i'm not a spraky guy but will say the 5.5 batt is the bad link, ya gotta have all six hooked up. its all about having the right pack voltage in order to get it to move or the charger to turn on

6.2v is about 70% and 5.5 is dead, have you charged the batteries yet?
After charging and resting measure the voltage again.
It's a common thing to miswire the batteries.
Measure the voltage at the charging receptacle, it should be around 38v.
Next measure each battery.
Post your results.
With the key on in reverse do you have the reverse beeper?

Im gonna try to get a new battery today and then I will hook all six up and see what happens. The cart has a beeper, but it didnt work with the key on, toggle in run position and the cart in reverse.

Did the reverse beeper work before?
If so, did you reinstall the charger connections?
Also check the reed switch and ignition switch.

thanks for the help dougmcp, nubs, and hotrodcarts. It was a combination of one bad battery from the store and power being drawn out of the other five and the charger not kicking in. I had to buy a new battery and charge the other five individually. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
