Purpose of Reed Switch on EZGO Electric Golf Cart

Hi, Beardog, new member. I own a 2000 yr. model EZGO TXT electric golf cart. The charger socket on the cart has a reed switch inside of it. Could anybody tell me the purpose of the reed switch for this particular application or the general purpose of a reed switch. Yours truly, Beardog

Thanks, again, HotRodCarts, for answering my question on the reed switch. Looks like the purpose in this case is basically a safety function. My reed switch had been disabled previously.

Yep, its just a safety item. I have to wonder how someone could drive away with the cord attached, but, strange things happen. It appears to be somewhat common to bypass that switch.

Make sure you use the Tow/Run switch on PDS models with a Curtis controller regardless of that reed switch. If you don't you'll end up buying a new controller.
