Problems With EZGO Forward and Reverse Switch

I have a 2004 EZGO that has been re-conditioned, new batteries, and lift, etc. It recently has had a problem with the forward and reverse switch going in reverse. You could press the throttle pedal lightly and it would finally go. This has been going on for a couple of months. This week, I had same problem in forward. The only way to get it to go was to push it, and then it would take off. Not sure where to begin with fix? Possibly a forward/reverse switch problem. How you diagnose. Thanks for any help.

Welcome!

We need to know which system you have on your 2004. Is your F/R switch on the dash or under your legs?

The F/R switch is on the dash. Model has a run/tow switch, therefore a DCS or PDS model. Someone came by yesterday and looked at it, and though it may be the solenoid, and suggested replacement with a silver vs. copper one, whatever that means? Thanks for input and help.

Welcome to the forum...

04 with the F/R switch on the dash would make it a PDS. The silver contact solenoid is a HD solenoid. It could be the solenoid, f/r switch or a few other things. Have you put it in diagnostic mode and see if you get any codes?

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I tried to run the diagnostic step last night, but after moving the reverse/neutral swith 5 times, it only made "one beep". I tried several times to get into diagnostic mode to identify code, but would only indicate the one beep. I guess if all else fails, time to call a repair man out! My guess is that it may be a solenoid problem. I've heard there are two kinds - copper and silver, with the 4 post silver being the more durable?

The first beep you hear is telling you which "chip" is installed on the controller and letting you know you're in diagnostic mode. If you can get the cart to move drive it a little while after you get the first beep and you should get a series of beeps that will be the actual trouble code.
