Powerwise Battery Charger Transformer and Diodes

Is there an easy way to test a transformer in a Powerwise battery charger to see if it's any good ? Same for the Diodes. I have an OHM meter, know how to use it but I'm not an electronic genius.

If your meter has a diode test setting use that. Or just set it to ohms and you should get a reading in one direction and 0 ohms in the other direction. I'm not sure how to test the transformer.

What does the charger do when you try to use it?

When I tried to use the charger it shorted out when i went to plug the cart in. It arced and melted the tips of the charger plug. I unplugged the charger and just tried to plug the cart in first and it popped the 50amp fuse.
Did some more checking tonight, the diodes are good but, when I checked the input (110v) leads for the transformer I get a dead short and when I checked the output leads (36v) I also get a dead short.
I think this transformer might be shot, the previous owner had been using it to charge the really old and bad batteries were in this cart that I have since replaced.
Anybody know where I can get a transformer if this one is bad? What can I expect to pay for one?

The transformers are expensive. You can buy a aftermarket charger or a used charger for less money than a new transformer. Try posting a add in the for sale forum. A lot of guys have upped the voltage on their carts and may have a 36 volt charger.
