pickup wire burning

i have a g9 yamaha golf cart gas replaced brushes in the starter installed starter and now with the pickup connected the ground for the pickup wants to burn. it only happens when the pickup is plugged in. removed the starter to see if something might be grounding on the case but see nothing.could there still be something going on with the starter or is it another problem? any advice would be very helpful thanks

mine did the same thing and when i finaly tracked it down it was one of the brush wires were not on the brush screw and shorted out on the starter housing
