Older Club car

HELP!! I have a older 36 volt club car, New batteries, When you step on the pedal to go,,,it barely creeps along. does the same in reverse (maybe slower) I can't hear clicking noise from the solenoids. The coil gets really hot on the passenger side. Someone told me that it's the solenoid. How can I test them (there's 5 of them) so I won't have to remove and replace til I find the bad one? THANKS!!
 
By older do you mean a 1970s, 1980s, 1990s or what cart? Need to know year of cart to diagnose problems.
Was the problem the same before new batterys?
NEED DETAILS.
