OBC Cost?

I have a friend with a 99 Club Car Precedent. After tinkering with it, and looking on the forums, we are suspecting a bad OBC. I'm sure it varies, but can anyone give me a ballpark figure of what it would cost to replace one? Parts and/or labor.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum...

If your friends Club Car is a 99 it's not a Precedent, it's more then likely a DS. I've seen the On Board Computer prices range from $200.00 to $300.00+ for the OBC only.

Take a look in the club car resource forum here. There's a procedure in that forum for resetting the OBC. Sometime this will get the cart running again.

Also if the cart is a 99 series cart you can test the OBC by bypassing it. Run a jumper wire from the yellow wire on the solenoid to battery #6 negative terminal. If the cart runs withthe jumper the OBC is bad.

If it's a regen cart the jumper / bypass won't work. Try the OBC reset posted in the Club Car resource forum here.

Ok... I found the instructions for resetting the OBC, but I am unable to find a tow switch on this cart, which is part of the reset instructions. I found some info on this board indicating that there may not be one on this particular model. If that is the case, do you have any idea how to reset the OBC?

If you don't have a run tow switch you have a series cart. Try this,

To reboot the OBC on a series wound non regen Club Car:

Disconnect the main positive and negative battery cables.
Place the F/R lever in rev, and push the go pedal slowly until the reverse buzzer stops beeping.

9 out of 10 times on a series wound Club Car if you run a jumper from the post on the solenoid with the yellow wire to battery # 6 negative terminal and the cart runs the OBC is bad...

Sorry it took so long to update. Ended up with a bad OBC and speed controller. Had both replaced at a local shop. The OBC was a shade over $300, so you were pretty accurate. I ended up owning the cart for what I had in it (cost of these repairs and batteries/cables).

Everything seems to be working pretty well now, but I do have another question... Is it best to let batteries run down before re-charging, or hook charger up more often, such as nightly, whether they are depleted or not?

Thanks as always for the guidance.

Glad to hear you got the cart running and thanks for the follow up.

The batteries should be charged at the end of each day or after 15 minutes of actual run time if the cart isn't going to be used again that day. Try not to go below 50% charge...
