I have a 98 EZGO that has a metal on metal noise coming from the left rear, I have changed the brakes and had the bearing checked by a local shop and yet the noise remains. it goes away when you jack up the cart, I am running the HD springs and a rear seat on a 36 volt fleet cart. When you accelerate there is no noise but when you let off the noise starts and gets louder as you brake or come to a stop. Its there in forward or reverse and is loud enough to be heard by others that are near the cart, Folks i am at my wits end with this I have tried everything I know to stop this but nothing works,(am considering shooting the thing and being done with it) PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind of sounds like spring bushings, hard to tell without looking at the cart. You have looked at a lot of things so it has to be something simple. Bushings are cheap i would replace them all for less then 20 bucks.

Would you believe the washer behind the hub is worn bad enough as to allow it to rub on the snap ring in front of the seal, thats what I am finding, I added a thin spancer behind the washer and most of the noise is gone. The spacer I had on hand was another snap ring with a smaller diameter. When I took the hub off again i noticed that the eyes on the snap ring looked warn like some thing was rubbing it and sure enough thats what it appears to be. am going to order a new washer and put the theory to the test will let you know
