aloha from maui i just picked up a g9( at least I think its a g9 no tag anyware) but anyway the engine was extremly dirty so i pressure washed everything and installed a battery and tried to start it . It starts kinda if you push your foot to the floor it sounds like its barely idling. it has no power and barely moves, the air filter looks like a oil bath filter there is so much oil in there. I pulled the fuel line off the carb. and turned it over fuel trickled out i dont know how much pressure theres supposed to be but i could take carb cleaner and spray it in the carb and get it to rev up some but lots of smoke i dont know if its from the carb cleaner or something with motor. theres a quick run down of where i am at. I guess I am looking for suggestions asto what i should be looking for or a way to eliminate possable issues to figure out whats up. I have never owned a golf cart but am a capable mechanic so wondering what direction to go with this project thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Did the cart run OK before you pressure washed it? If it did it will probably be fine after it sits a while and dries out. Clean all the oil out of the air box and replace the air filter. Make sure you have a good seal on the air box.

aloha gonzo, mahalo to you and thanks hotrod carts it has run this way since i got it. I got it for free from a golf course maintanance yard Im assuming the reason for getting it free. I havent checked compression or valve clearances yet this seems like some kind of fuel issue. but I am hearing alot about the airbox needing to be sealed up tight. whats the issue with that, most engines will run without an aircleaner atleast while your working on machine but it seems everyone on the sight keeps referring to the fact that the engine wont hardly run even if there is a slight leak from aircleaner, just wondering thanks for any help

ok update, went to my garage yesterday and there was about half gallon of gas on the ground around the cart. started looking around and the spacer between carb and head was cracked where one of the studs are and the stud was hanging loose so need to find a parts source also no plugs in bottom of air cleaner so need parts source for those also

ok so it gets better find a replacement spacer bought a tune up kit the fuel was actually a leaking fuel line going to the carb, new battery, spark plug, air filter inner and outer and did a compression test it had 165psi so tried to get it running, it would run if i would depress the gas pedal to getit turning over and then raising the pedal until it whas at about 10% of throttle then it would run and actually wind out some. But plenty smoke and oil started dripping from bottom of air cleaner so i disconnected the vent hose from aircleaner going to valve cover and ran motor, it had almost as much oil coming out of that hose as the fuel pump puts out, so i pinched off vent hose and ran it it ran actually a little better for a few seconds and then it blew the oil filler cap about 10 feet in the air. so what am i looking at here bad rings, bad valve guides hole in cilynder or is time to start looking for an r1 motor to replace exsisting motor

With a 165 lbs of compression I doubt if rings are the problem unless a oil ring is broken. Is the cart over full of oil?

no not over full yea not sure whats up with motor but just picked up another motor kinda dirty on outside but oil looks new and freash so will swap motors and see what happens thanks for the inpute

oh yes I forgot to ask is there any thing tricky about pulling and install of clutch assembly like needing certain type of puller or special tools etc.. thanks again

aloha everyone i got the cart running cruised it around a bit to make sure its ok, and then dove in head first i bought a light kit for it from rocky top parts kinda cheap but i can work with it. also bought a 7 inch double a arm lift kit and 22x10x12 tires and wheels, am bending pipe for bumpers tomorrow, I will try and get some pics up soon, not sure wich way going with paint yet camo or custom paint. keep you posted, aloha
