New MTP Motor

I am looking to go to the EMP 2 speed motor for speed and torque increase. I have a 1997 EZGO TXT non-DCS 36 volt cart. There is an access to the motor from the top (cover held in place by 4 torex screws).
Question is, can I remove my old motor and repace it with a new EMP one through that access or does it have to come off from the bottom?

Thanks!!

To install the new motor, are thr only cabels to disconnect on the batteries are just the main pos and neg that run to the motor? Thanks

When working on ANY electric cart:

Switch cart to Maintainence mode (if so equipped).
Disconnect main pack positive and main pack negative cables. Protect these loose ends with duct tape.
Turn key on, put cart in gear, step on gas to bleed any stored energy from the controller. Put cart in neutral, turn key off.
Perform needed service.
Reconnect main pack cables.

Excellent instructions. Thank you!! My new motor has been ordered. Must now wait 2 weeks for it to arrive.... ordering process was most friendly and informative.

I am interested in hearing the specs on your new motor as I have the same cart as you (well, almost).

One other really easy way to remove the motor (after you have disconnected and drained power) jack the rear of your cart up and put it on stands while the jack in under your rear remove the lower shock nuts and the two rear shackle bolts and lower the rear to the ground, your cables will be long enough to be left on till you have it lowered. This makes the work very easy.

The carts we have here have seats and boxes on them that is how I have pulled the motors and it works well for me.

Thanks for the good advice. I hope I get me new motor soon so I can get it installed and see what a difference it will make.
