I bought my golf cart in May of this year. I read up on all of the wonderful changes I could make to the cart. It was already running 21 mph stock. I could hardly wait to put some new bigger tires on it, now she goes 23 mph. My question is, the motor is a stock 3.65 hp "special service' AMI 0105. The Controller is a Curtis 1204-410 225 Voltage. Will anyone give me their :twocents: on which way to go for more speed ? Thanks in Advance for your time.

How fast do you want to go?
You'll want to look at cable upgrades (my fav is the 600volt 4 guage weld wire) and explore the motor and controller ypgrade packages available. Add batteries, get her up to 72 volts :naughty:
just my:twocents:
There is a wealth of knowlage here at Cartaholics, you'll be getting some great information.

HotRodCarts can hook you up with some awesome ideas, Yes HRC I've been reading alot of your other post, and thanks, you've helped me out a ton!

harleyb2000, sounds to me that your cart has already been upgraded once. The motor does not sound like it is stock nor does the speed. A stock cc for that year assuming yours is 48v is 3.1 hp you said yours is 3.65. Check your wire gauge and see if that is 6 gauge which is stock or 4 gauge which is an upgrade. You said that you are getting 21 mph out of it right now a stock cc should only get around 12 to 15 mph. You may not have to do much to get more speed out of it but need to know what has been done to it before proceeding don't want to buy and install things you don't need.

Frizbgolf,
Yes it is a 48 volt golf cart. I put 4 gauge cables only on the batteries because I decided to do the rest whenever I went with another controller. To my knowledge nothing has been done, it came from a retirement community. Thank you. :hattip:

harleyb, what year and model is your cart. you may want to go ahead and upgrade the rest of the 6 gauge cables to 4 gauge. You should always change all 6 ga to 4 ga when upgrading as the 4 ga will allow more current flow which could cause the remaining 6 ga wires to overheat.

Frizbgolf,
It's a 2000.5 Club Car DS. I will change out the remaining wires. Do you think I have done any damage to the cart by running it this way for 2 or so months ? Thanks in advance your time and knowledge.

If you haven't experienced any problems by now you haven't done any damage that I can think of. Just out of curiosity is your cart an IQ model. If you look on the serial number it will say something like AA03, or IQ03 in the first four digits. The letters represent the model and the numbers are the year. If yours is an IQ it is possible that the previous owner had the speed setting adjusted that is why you are getting 21mph, you may also be able to get more speed out of it this way if it isn't already set to the highest setting. Let me know what you got and we will go from there.
