New EMP Motor Just Arrived

My new EMP motor just arrived. I also got the optional speed/torque switch. Questuion is does anyone have any installation suggestions?

Do I remove the old and install the new motor from the top? Motor seems pretty heavy and I don't know how much clearance I have coming in and out of the top.

If I do it from the bottom, how should I jack up and support my 1997 EZGO?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I usually change them from the bottom on lifted carts. Jack the cart up under the cross member right in front of the rear bumper. Put jack stands just in front of the front rear spring hangers. Make sure you unhook the positive and negative from the battery pack. Spray a little penetrating oil on the 4 cable connections at the motor and use 2 wrenches to remove and tighten the 4 nuts there.

1 - Spray a little penetrating oil on the 4 cable connections on the motor.
2 - Remove the battery pack positive and negative cables.
3 - Mark the 4 cables at the motor so you don't mix them up.
4 - Use 2 wrenches to remove the cables from the motor. 1 wrench to hold the jam nut and the other to remove the nuts holding the cables.
5 - Remove the 3 bolts holding the motor on at the flange on the rear end.
6- Slide the motor off the input shaft, you may have to wiggle the motor.

You can remove the drivers side shock to get extra room but you can get the motor out without taking it off.

If the cart isn't lifted and doesn't have a rear seat you may find it easier from the top...

Thanks for the expert advice. The cart is not lifted and does not have a rear seat (yet). Since the motor is so heavy, do I have adequate room to work with it from the top??

When you remove the access panel behind the seat you'll have plenty of room. I find it easier to do from the bottom and others find the top easier. Either way it's not to bad.

I plan to install it and test this weekend. I will post the results. the motor and switch appear to be of excellent quality and very good instructions. I hope it will go easily.
