d through.... I must have made something so hot, I actually melt a terminal off of a new set of batts. the set has a post like a auto as well so i wrapped the cable with a strip of wire cut from my lights to limp on home. now im worried i over-did it.
It ran fine on the way home. what could have caused such heat to melt down the terminal?
maybe you guys have heard of this before!

Usually it's a bad connection or cable that will cause a battery terminal to melt. Although if you put the cart under a heavy load like you were it can happen. What size cables are you using?

Our used cart came with two melted off. I think poor connections as mentioned is the number one cause. A wrench dropped in the wrong place may be another cause.

dirty and or loose connections will do it and yes you may have just over did it..............there is a repair for this so you don,t have to scrap the battery..................................

Thanks for the responds Guys!

I have #4 gauge wires. I went to the local aouto zone and bought
a 10 inch 4 gauge battery terminal and bolt it to the big post and while doing that i noticed
i had a few loose connections throughout the set.... Hooked up the new wire
and all is well...... it is amazing what a new set of batteries does. the set took a nice charge as well. what is an average charge time for a set that is showing half of a full charge before plugging in?

Just so you know those lugs on the cables from the auto parts store are usually cheap ones and like to loosen up on the batteries. They also use thick wire inside the cable with a low strand count. Keep a eye on them and make sure they stay tight.

Charge time on a pack that at 50% will be at least 6-8 hours and could go as long as 14-16 hours.
