Hello Everyone! I am new to the forum and looking for some help. I picked up this 70's Marketeer (436?) as a project to work on with my daughter. Currently running into some electrical issues. I am using the wiring diagram and troubleshooting chart in the resources here.

Issue: after hooking up all the wires, putting the F/R Switch in either direction would cause the cart to move without pushing the accelerator pedal. Then smelled smoke and thought it was the motor, but it was the wires from the key ignition melting.

I was just trying to get it hooked up to see if the motor worked and had used wire nuts to connect the wires from the ignition switch to battery/solenoid. Got new wire connectors and hooked it up again and replaced the top (#1 solenoid?) per the troubleshooting chart, but still get the same issue with cart moving forward or reverse without pushing the pedal when moving the F/R switch.

I may have it wired incorrectly, may be a component issue. I'm just trying to see if I can get it running.

Thanks in advance, any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Zman, I’ll start there next. Wondering if it is best to just get 3 more new solenoids and all new diodes/wires.

Greatly appreciate the help!
