Marathon Brakes Pedal Requires Full Press To Floor

1987 Marathon electric, put new brake shoes, new drums and new brake cables, After all this the pedal requires full press to the floor to get it to start to stop, not sure what else to try. Not real sure when releasing cables from backing plate and working adjuster back and forth doesn’t seem to make a difference in the drag at all. Can’t tighten cables any further either I’m at the end of tension rod.

If everything is assembled correctly, then, it sure seems like an adjustment issue. Can you change adjustment to have drums turn freely ? Then tighten adjustment until drums drag slightly and then so drums drag hard ?

I’m sure your 100% correct on adjustment issue I have a slight drag only cables tight, just seems like working the adjustment levers on back of backing plates with a wrench doesn’t change anything

My take is that the cables are to long (some) and loosing the pull force needed and being taken up by the slack or possibly not securely fastened to frame?
