Lowering Roof

I need to lower the roof after I lift the cart to get into the trailer. I was thinking about cutting out several inches on the upper supports below the roof. I was thinking of finding something smaller to put into the bracket to drill and bolt into. Kinda like a smaller pipe that fits into the bigger outside pipe. Any thoughts of what I could use???

What kind of cart is it? I've done it on EZGO's by using square tubing that fits inside the roof support square tubing.

Thats what I need. 95 EZGO Medalist.
What size tubing do I get? Is it something I can get at Home depot?
I'm flying blind on this as the cart is kept at the campground so I need to bring what I need.
Thanks.

I had square tubing here that was a good fit. I have some roof supports out in the shop. I'll get a ID measurement of the roof support and post it shortly.

Front support is 3/4" OD and 5/8 ID
Rear support is 1" OD and 7/8 ID

I think I used 1/2" OD for the front and and 3/4" OD for the rear and it was a decent fit.
