Looking at a Yamaha G16A Thats Been Sitting a While

Hi all, I am looking at a 1997 Yamaha G16A. It hasn't run in quite some time and owner (divorcee) knows nothing about it other than it's been sitting in the yard a while. What things should I look for to get it running, if it will. Looks like it is complete but I am new to carts so I am not sure. I would like to use it around my property so it need not be a race cart but I am looking for reliability.

Are there copies of the service manual in pdf on the web? Maybe reading a little of the service manual will help determine if anything is wrong with it or if it was just parked and forgot about. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nice forum by the way, everyone seems to be friendly and very helpful, I am looking forward to posting more once I make the deal! Thanks, Tim

I guess i would go over there and give it a compression test and see if there is spark. I would not get it running for the seller so they could charge you more. Just make those tests and say it didn't start, because it didn't, and talk price. When you get it home, clean the carb, clean the air filter, change the plug and put in fresh gas. Personally, I would use starting fluid for the first start but others here will boo me for this. Of course that will not stop me from using it.

Use it myself, only blew one snow mobile engine up. Roll the dice, use small amount she will fire.

Thanks, for the tips. I picked it up but haven't had too much time to look at it since I got it. Of course wifey isn't too happy, another project that will cost more money.

I found the owners manual on-line, does the service manual have a better troubleshooting section? Anyone have a copy of the troubleshooting section from the service manual they could send me?

I am not familiar with Yamaha golf carts, hear they are good carts. Look in the Yamaha Resource section of Cartaholics forum there's manuals in there. If you can't find one buy a manual you will be glad you did.
