I have a 2007 clubcar with a high torque motor and controller. The cart has 7 in lift and 23in tires . The wires are all #4 and heavy f/r switch. While driving it at a slow speed the controller and motor overheated and the cart stopped pulling . The wires from the f/r switch to the motor and controler were also hot.Does any one have any ideas. thanks timbuck

I know with a D&D motor most controllers need to be reprogramed. More than likely you have a Alltrax controller which needs to be setup according to which motor you use. If all your connections were good tight and clean I'd say you may have a problem with the configuration between the motor and controller. I'd contact the dealer that put the cart together and see what they have to say. Or you could give D&D a call but you'll need to know what make and model the controller and motor are before they can help.

The people who put the cart together checked it out and said the wires were to small so they doubled them up.

I'm not a big fan of doubling up the cables. The extra connections are more prone to loosening up and more apt to corrode which can cause a heat issue.

That was my thoughts but these guys have been in business for years . The cables he doubled were the ones from the F/R switch back to the motor and contorller.

Did the cart run again after sitting and coolin down? If so chances are the controller went into thermal shutdown from over heating. Does the cart run now? If it does just make sure the connections are good everywhere and ride it a while and keep checking all the cables, motor, controller and forward/reverse switch for heat. I'd seriously think about changing all the cables to 2 guage. I know D&D has a couple motors that require 2 gauge if using a high amp controller. The doubling up on the cables is not the right way to fix your problem. Also all the cables should be the same size, so they all should have been doubled up if thats how the shop set the cart up.

Without knowing exactly what you have as far as motor, controller, I really don't know what else to reccomend. But like I said think about redoing all the cables and getting rid of the doubled cables.
Seeing how the cart is a 2007 and you bought it from a dealer with the addons installed by them I'd take it to the shop you bought it from and make them fix it.

I got the cart back and they replaced all the cables with #2 welding cable . The cart runs great, nothing is getting to hot except for ME. The temp here is near 100 most days in Alabama. Thanks for the advise .
