LED Headlight Conversion Won't Work

I replaced the headlight/bumper assembly, (bumper was trashed), which was an incandescent bulb assembly, thought I'd upgrade to LED headlight. The LED headlight won't work, so I swapped out back to the original headlight, with new bumper, all good. What do I need to do to get the LED headlight to work? I was told the LED lights need a diode in the harness. The harness is a Madjax assembly, was installed previously.

I don't know why you would need a diode, but, the LEDs may be/probably are polarity sensitive.

My LED light bar worked when I bought the 1990 Hyundai cart. Had 3 12 v batteries. I replaced with 6 new 6 volt. The on off button lights up green. The light bar does not. Did I damage it by an incorrect battery connect?
