kawasaki valvetrain

My father in law has a 2000/2001? club car pioneer with a kawasaki 352cc engine ykaxs 3522ca mfg date 1100....it quit running so he brought me the carb....i cleaned it up and gave it back ..he put it on and said no difference....so i went to his house got it to run(barely) and it was clattering badly....the OHV engine has a cover right up front with 2 bolts I removed and the intake rocker has so much lash there is almost enough room to pull the pushrod out......where can I find info and a breakdown on this engine....and any ideas on what could have happened apart of possibly neglect on maintainance....I cant imagine he didnt hear it slowly getting worse....well maybe....but any help would be appreciated
