is this normal

just got 1980 ez go and trying to get it running. i turned key on and it turns over when i put in forward or reverse. is that normal. it stops cranking when lever is in nuetral position.(it doesnt say nuetral but lever is inbetween the two). if this is normal you would have to either turn key off or put lever in nuetral every time you stop.

No thats not normal. It shouldn't start cranking until you press the throttle. Sounds like someone bypassed a micro switch or something.

or the micro switch is stuck(bad) in the closed position. The micro switch is located down below the foward/reverse lever inside the engine compartment and is a pita to get to.

Check the cable locks at the carburetor, if one of them slipped it will also cause it to do what you described
