I am installing headlights and taillights on my 1994 Club Car golf cart. I have the headlights, taillights and switch but am not sure how to wire them up. I have cut the holes and removed the front panel to begin the wiring. Thanks in advance for for any help I can get.

Welcome to the forum.
You'll need a 12 volt source for the lights. If your cart is 36 volts you can use two of the 6 volt batteries that are connected to each other or use a separate 12 volt battery. If your cart is 48 volt you can use two of the 8 volt batteries for a total of 16 volts. I don't like using the 16 volt setup but I know many have without any problems.

The easiest way to wire them is connect all 4 positive wires together and all 4 negative wires together. Then run a fused wire from your 12 volt source positive to the switch and connect the positive from the lights to the other side of switch. Then run the ground wire from the negative side of your 12 volt source to the ground wire from the lights.
DO NOT ground to the frame or any other metal, run the ground to negative on your power source.

That seems simple enough. Hopefully I can do it without screwing it up. Thanks so much for the help.

When I installed lights on my 2004 cc, it was recommended to use a dedicated source such as a converter. I purchased a 48 to 12 unit and have no issues. I also fused the circuits as you recommend. I have been told there can be a battery balance problem and premature failure of the "12 volt" source batteries. That being said, I am interested if one can run items on selected batteries and the need for a converter is a sales pitch or is one on borrowed time not using a converter.

I run lights on both my 48 volt carts, hooked to the center two batteries never had a problem. These light kits have a relay in the hookup.I don,t think this is the best way to do it. Thinking about a radio on my 02 cart and think i will need a converter or a seperate 12 volt source. My 02 anyway.

I went ahead and took the time to install a 12v source to run all my electronics. If you use a sealed battery you can mount it the way I have.

I know I'm late to the party with this post but I think it's worth mentioning. I used to use two 8 volt batteries to run my headlights and taillights. A problem occurs when you use the headlights just after taking the battery pack off charge. Immediately after charging an individual battery may have a temporary 9+ volt surface charge, for two batteries that adds up to 18 volts or more. My headlights didn't like that and both burned out when I took the cart off charge and turned on the headlights. To get around that I would run the cart without headlights for a brief period before I turned them on, not a good solution. Eventually I bought a 48 to 12 volt converter.
