i have a 2002 ezgo txt cart i un-plugged the wire for the reverse beep indicator,i then was trying to plug it back when i accidently touched a hot wire and a spark occured and then i lost all power it will not move forward or reverse it still has front and rear lights,i have checked all connections and the fuse between the battery and where you plug in the charger to the golf cart wires.

Welcome to Cartaholics.

Is this a PDS or series cart? After the spark does the reverse buzzer still work when you put the cart in reverse?

what is a reed switch and where is it located?. there is a red wire coming off the battery that has a 15 amp fuse it goes down below and runs along the frame towards the back not sure what it goes to

The reed switch is inside the charger receptacle. It keeps the cart from moving when the charger is plugged in. If the reed switch blows the cart will have no power. Arcing wires usually blow the reed switch. There's instructions in the resource forum on how to jump/bypass it.

i did like you suggested by-passing the reed switch and that is what it was, what purpose does the reed switch serve and will it hurt to leave it by-passed.

It can be bypassed, but remember to loop your charger cable through the steering wheel so you don't drive off dragging a 50 pound iron anchor behind you.

Glad to hear it's fixed.

Like Gorno said it's fine to leave it bypassed just remember it will run now when the charger is plugged in.

thanks for all your help. if the reed switch blows is there a chance there will be lasting effects from this or electrical problems in the future?
