How do you get the clutch on the shaft?

Does it matter what size shaft you need to put the stock clutch on? How do you get the clutch on the shaft? What about those go kart engines how do the clutch components all go together? Instead of using the stock clutch can you weld a sprocket on the engine shaft and then weld a sprocket on the differential and make it chain drive?

I would either mod your stock clutch to fit the shaft if neccessary or get a comet clutch that will fit. Comet can usually match a clutch up the almost all shafts. One of the biggest things is making sure the shaft is not too long for the clutch. Don't think I would weld spockets due to it being really difficult in getting them straight/true and balanced correctly.

Spriddle or anyone other engine smart people, do you think this will work in an ezgo? Its shaft looks a little shorther than an ezgo? The exhaust manifold is on what would be the front of a golf cart engine so does that mean the clutch will be on the passenger side instead of the driver side? Is it a bad idea to use snowmobile engines in warm climates? Does it take a lot of rigging to get the gas pedal to function right with the engine? Thanks

Oh and one more question, well actually two more, it might be just my eyes but now it looks like that exhaust manifold is just sitting there in front of the engine and not hooked up? Also, if I bought a new snowmobile drive clutch for this specific engine would it work in conjunction with the driven clutch on the diff?

Those exhausts usually exit the front of the motor and the pipe does a 180 to the rear. Its tuff to get that exhaust system inside the cart, but if you can that motor would move! If that was an electric start motor and it had all of the parts on it, it would be the one to get if you were going 2 cycle.

Hey its great to see you around here finally.
Unfortunately its not electric start but I thought that would help with ease of wiring the thing. The only thing keeping me from putting it in my workhorse is its so wide because of the recoil starter. If only I could find an extra spare inch it would fit. I need to get the recoil starter either completely above or below the frame rails for it to work. Does the engine have to be on a swing arm or could it be mounted directly to the frame via 3 pieces of tubing welded directly to the frame as a motor mount? The only problem I see there is the belt jumping off when the rear end articulates.

You would need to drop the motor mount lower so it would clear the frame. That would include getting a higher lift kit, but then your loosing stability which you need more of.

It's nice as a backup starter, but stay away from any pull start only motor.

Actually, after looking at this engine again, I think it is driver's side driven clutch system. If so, you would just need to simply wrap the exhaust under and back.

I would like to put it in a yamaha g2. There was a yamaha g2 on ebay about a month ago that had a snowmobile engine similair to mine and they got it to set real nice in the cart. The g2 must have more room between the frame rails then the workhorse. I need at least 26" width wise to clear everything and the workhorse frame is onyly 25". I think it did it just to get under my skin. But anyway with a g2 it should be a lot safer with a moddest lift.
