Honda 24hp Drive Belt Tension

Hello, can you guys tell me about how tight my drive belt tension should be when the engine is off? :dazed: Mine is very loose, I can almost pinch it together. I think it is a snowmobile belt. :hattip:
 
It's a custom install.

The motor can be adjusted forward and sideways. The belt is 1 1/4 wide and approx. 47 in long. I don't know anything about the drive clutch, sorry. Thanks for the reply :thumbsup:
 
Looks like you are using the stock clutches. I would imagine that you would need the belt a bit loose so the engine can idle.
 
On 47 1/8 X 1 1/4" belts, we adjust for the clutches to be 12 1/2" apart(center to center). I would put a new belt on before you do any adjusting, that one looks fairly worn.

thanks for the response, the belt is 47 1/8 and it is between 1 1/8 and 1 1/4.....did it wear down from 1 1/4?.........how can you tell if the belt is worn too much?.......it looks fine to me, it is dirty and you can see a couple places on the outside that have slight wear....the belt may have 100 hours on it......the clutches are 13 inches apart measured from the ouside bolts, i wanted to go another 3/4 of an inch forward to tighten the belt ..... i can pinch the belt together right behind the drive clutch and almost touch the top and bottom together...........would a new high performance clutch make a big difference?........thanks again
 
A new 1 1/4" wide belt will ride higher out of the secondary clutch, which will tighten it up. I've never compared the inner dimentions of a stock clutch to one of our 1190's, so I don't know what that would do for belt tension, probably not much difference there.

Thank you for the help Frank. I was wondering if getting a better clutch would make a big difference in performance not belt tension. It seems like i am around 2500 rpms taking off and around 3400 to over 4000 rpms to get going a fast pace, then you have to back off the gas it feels like the engine is at a high rpm taking off. If you stomp the gas it will pull the front end up several inches. My cart has a yamaha raptor 660 front end so it is flexing upward. It seems to be missing some take off power do you sell the belt I need? How much shipped to Florida or California? How long does a belt last? Thanks again :thumbsup:
