High speed gear install

I have a 2008 CC Precedent gas with 12:1 slow gears.
How big of a job is it to replace gears with 8:1 high speed gears? I'm looking to get about 25mph out of cart. Everything else on cart is standard, 8" wheels. I've tweaked the gov., but at 20mph the engine is rev. fairly high, almost cutting out on high rev. limiter.

I have done the E-Z-GO gas carts a lot and it will take me around 4hrs for the whole project. Its not very hard its pretty straight forward. Just take lots of pics of the teardown. If you take pics you can't screw it up.

Nice post Bad !

Wait that sounded wierd

What does that gear change do to the pulling power of the cart ?
I spend a LOT of time during the summers @ 5Mph or less.
I also move both utility trailers and a small boat on a trailer around .

I just want to know how the gear ratio change will effect the overall performance of the cart.

Thanks
Tim

the gear change will affect your hill climbing / pulling power.
if you do the gears add a power spring to the driven clutch.

I have 8:1 gears in my E-Z-GO, and love them. But I also did the 350 with the 295 head which I am running 220psi in my motor.

So I don't really see much of a drag on my motor. I have done other 8:1 ratios in other carts and haven't really tried to any hill climbing yet.... but I think you went the right way by not going to the 6:1. If you did you would lost a lot of torque!!

Just added the high speed gears (8-1) ratio and the cart now runs great! I'm cruising about 25 mph and the rpm's are much lower now. Much quieter now and the fuel mileage has to improve. I notice a little less take off speed, but over all very pleased. Hill climbing does not seem to be a problem.
Thanks for all the previous feedback.
