we run a 1999 ezgo with a 6.1 motor 700amp controller. been having a problem burning up cables, over the winter changed out the f and r switch, but did not change wire.but not the cable. it lasted a little while but burned up again. did alittle digging and found out the cable should be re- placed.so i ordered new cables, new copper studs and a set of new heavy duty buss bars. do you think this will solve the problem? or should i try somthing else.love the speed i get out of it but man that thing burns up some stuff thank. bcgc

The high speed motors are tough in parts. Everything has to be 100%. Make sure the board is good on the F&R switch. If it shows signs of heat replace it. It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the springs in the F&R switch while you have it apart.

Where are you getting the cables from? I'd go with either 2 or 4 guage welding cable with good lugs installed properly.

the springs and board are new,i got it in time to save the new board i just bought over the winter, i was going to replace the 1 ga, i made up in 07 for new 1 ga. the wire that burns up is from the controller to the switch . do you think i should just buy a 4 ga set from a supplier.when i made up the cables we soldered them, but i'm not sure if we did it right. for the money its easier to buy a set for a 100 bucks.i'm tired of rebuilding the f and r switch, i can do it in my sleep.in and rebuilt re- installed 10 minutes, thank you for your help as always.just want to go one season with out burning my fingers. love the cart and the system! just

BuggiesUnlimited sells a nice pre-made set of 4 guage welding cable with good quality crimped on lugs. I've used them on a few carts and they're nice cables and work well. With the 700 amp controller and high speed (RPM) motor you would be better off with 2 guage. But the lugs need to be either crimped with a quality crimper or soldered correctly or both. If the lugs aren't put on the cables right your defeating the purpose. If you have a welding supply near you they can make cables for you.

thanks i use buggies all the time, just wasn't sure you people use them,i was on b-g-w forum before i found you and they really hated them, so i was afraid to say.they have a couple of NO IT ALLS over there, allset with them! you always seem to answer the question i have and i thank you for that.you make maintaining my families carts much easier!! i think for now i'm going to buy the 4 gauge from b.u., the price is right. this will give me the time to go thru the 1 gauge cables that are on the cart now. this way if they need repair i'll be able to fix them, and save alittle money on new 1 ga.cables i can alway re-install later and use the 4 ga. cables in the other carts we have. we thank you once again, bcgc.

No problem at all mentioning Buggies Unlimited or any other site here. The 4 guage cables should work out for you. Just make sure you keep all the connections clean and tight and watch for signs of heat.

huh,you maybe right.the baystate thing is what it is. b.g.w are who they are. you can't really tell me, that you don't see a diffence between cartaholic and b.g.w! hotrod straight forward. do you think maybe we are just testing the water to see who may be able to help us out. maybe to some people maintaining 1 or 2 carts they feel like a golf cart wizard we have them come thru my door daily,to BCGC maintaining our own 5 carts, fleet of 20 rentals and a campground with over 300 site. sometimes it nice to ask somone else for their opinion. we see you posted the day you joined so maybe you don't know to much about the golfcart world, but in our golf cart world the renters want the rentals, the seasonals want their carts for the weekend and vacation weeks and O ya the wifes and kids are you kidding me, if their carts are not up and running. you better have someone like hot rod on speed dial. so are you going to spend the day figuring the problem out on one cart while the others line up outside the door?or are you going to post and hope hotrodcarts steps up to help you out.we need to fix, order, move carts, and explain over and over the problems the customers have. this is the differance between the 2. cartaholics forum and the tech team @ bu is talked about around our shop all day long. we only know a handfull of people that can point you in the right direction when you hit a wall. are hats off to them THANK YOU. bcgc is a group of people with golf carts.i'm just trying to keep everyone going.

HRC has helped me out a lot. He spent a lot of time with me on the phone when I needed help with a old ezgo I was rebuilding. Ive hung around on all the golf cart forums and have been banned from one that I wont mention and Ill say that cartaholics has the most helpful info available.
